Bill to Lower Ride Operator Age in Michigan sent to House Ways and Means Committee, Support HB 5134
House Bill 5134 sponsored by Representative Greg VanWoerkom (R-19), a bill that would lower the ride operator age from 18 to 16 in the state, passed the House Regulatory Reform Committee and has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.
HB 5134 must pass out of committee before going to the House Floor.

It is critical that the members of the committee hear from you so that they understand the importance of having capable, well-trained ride operators is the upmost importance to the industry. And that those well-trained operators can in fact be 16 years of age. HB 5134 merely mirrors federal law, which states that ride operators can be 16 years of age. This would provide additional jobs and help Michigan’s workforce by allowing facilities to hire more youth workers.
